Iam extremely happy to have had this opportunity to go to Sydney to represent Singapore for the 2008 World Youth Climbing Championships. The whole trip from the start to the end was a great experience for me.
I had a lot of fun and more importantly, learnt many new things. Though I did not win any prizes, I have learnt how important it is to be mentally focused for competition as competing internationally is very different from competing in local competition watching and interacting with the many experienced climbers definitely helped me to sharpen my climbing skills.
Together with my teacher Ms Eunice Lee, I spent 11 days in Sydney and at the end of the trip, I was really reluctant to leave. The time there was really meaningful because in that week and a half, I had learnt to be more independent as I had to take care of myself. It was truly a memorable experience and I could not wait to share my experience with my classmates and family.
I would like to thank Madam Choy, Mr. Singh and my CCA teacher’s - Ms Eunice Lee and Mr. Ong Kok Heng for giving me this opportunity to represent the school and country.
I also want to thank my teachers and rock-climbing friends who have given me moral support and encouragement.
